What We Do

Hitched (or Not) and Hatching

This day of activities for new parents includes creative workshops for new and expecting parents, lunch and snacks, fun activities for the dads and relaxation for the moms.

They key activity for these parents is learning relationship skills to keep their relationship strong while adjusting to the new addition in the family. Staff and volunteers talk about how to communicate, and how to disagree without having a fight. The focus of the day is teaching skills that can help keep "parenthood" from messing up "couplehood."

Friends of Operation Us assists by providing raffle prizes to be given away all day long, including a diaper bag for every couple packed with baby supplies. The raffle ensured participants enjoyed the full benefit of the special, all-day, relationship education workshop. This event helped prepare couples for challenges in their relationships as they adjusted to the excitement of parenthood.

By engaging these couples, we helped safeguard the lives of children by giving their parents the relationship tools they need to create a happy and secure home.

Love Seats Project

The Need for Role Models

Whose marriage would you like yours to be like?” This question, posed by Dr. Jennifer Baker and students in the Marriage & Family Therapy Program she directs at Forest Institute. This inspiring question provided the energy and motivation for Loveseat: Love that Goes the Distance. All too often we heard couples reply, “We don’t know any.” The need for finding couples who might serve as role models became a priority for Dr. Baker and Ozarks Marriage Matters.

Through projects such as Loveseats: Love that Goes the Distance, Ozarks Marriage Matters not only succeeded to provide role models for the community, but raised awareness that marriage, including the family as a whole unit, needed serious attention.

Given the growing body of evidence showing the connection between healthy marriage and overall well-being, it made perfect sense for OMM to partner with the Springfield medical community. Partners such as the St. John’s Clinic, Forest Institute and others to helped produce this project honoring love that endures and triumphs.
